Shaw temporarily halts module prototype work

On January 10, Nuclear Regulatory Commission personnel began an inspection at the Shaw Modular Solutions facility in Lake Charles, La., where modular components for the Westinghouse AP1000 pressurized water reactor will be fabricated. Vendor inspections will be a key aspect of the regulation of new power reactors licensed under 10 CFR Part 52, and with regard to major plant equipment, the conduct of these inspections is still at an early stage. In this particular case, the inspection could not be completed because of what the NRC referred to as "the current status of activities" at the site. The actual circumstances that caused the early termination of the inspection were not detailed.
