NRC to assess released-patient exposure

There has been a trend in the United States toward shorter hospital stays, not only because of improvements in care, procedures, and recovery practices, but because of high costs, spurring patients to be released from the hospital more quickly (strongly encouraged by their insurers). For patients receiving nuclear medicine treatment, this trend can have an effect not previously expected: greater exposure of a patient's family members to the radioactive material still in the patient.
