Lou Quails has been named national technical director for molten salt reactors (MSR) in the Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy. Quails, who has been with the DOE's Oak Ridge National Laboratory since 1988, will serve as a liaison between the DOE, the nuclear industry, and the national laboratory system in defining the future of MSR technology in the United States. The new position was created in response to the private sector's growing interest in MSRs as the next generation of power reactors.
