摘要

Continuing with the series of featuring images from our treasured photographic archive or member collections, in this issue we draw on John Joyce's images from our Ava archive.Born in Christchurch in 1932, John Alistair Joyce spent his childhood there and in Greymouth before the family shifted to Wanganui. John's father was a railwayman and while that undoubtedly fostered his interest in railways, John commenced work as an apprentice printer with a local newspaper, maintaining his trade through his working life on both sides of the Tasman. For much of his working life John lived in Australia, mostly in Perth.Maintaining his appreciation for railways there, John teamed up with Allan Tilley to form J&A Publications, together publishing three books on railways in Australia and South East Asia. After his lengthy stay in Australia, John returned to New Zealand and settled in Rotorua to look after his ageing parents. After both of them had passed away John shifted to Christchurch and made his birth city his final home.
