摘要

A recent article I came across talked of capping Public Servants pay at $350,000 (and in the Private Sector at $750,000). Interesting ideas! Although whether these sentiments or amounts stipulated reflect anything more than the strongly held views of the writer, remains to be seen. Similar ideas on capping pay are regularly floated as frustration with a public or private sector organisation is directed at the senior team, specifically the CEO and/or the Board/Council. The pay of these individuals is often the first point made ("The pay is ridiculous, get rid of them, we don't need them, 1 can do the job for half the amount, and so on"). Overseas headlines related to pay differentials that have developed among some of the largest organisations in the world'too often fuel the concerns of those commenting on the New Zealand situation.
