Kuraray Co Ltd, Japan, has developed a thermoplastic elastomer for alloys, the so called "Q polymer". The Q polymer is suitable for designing lightweight polymer alloys that exhibit good abrasion, scratch and hydrolysis resistance. The material is also compatible with various resins. Further, Q polymer-based alloys demonstrate significantly improved properties above those of the company's Septon hydrogenated styrenic thermoplastic elastomers and its Kuramilon thermoplastic polyurethane, Kuraray says.
