LIKE MANY OF US, Captain Wendy Lawrence, USN (Ret.) was inspired by Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon - a catalyst for Wendy that would play a huge part in developing a curiosity for science and a want for adventure. It's no small wonder, Wendy grew up at a time of rapidly changing technologies and STEM opportunities across the board. Many of Wendy's talents, however, came to her honestly being the daughter and granddaughter of United States Naval Academy graduates and naval aviators; her maternal grandfather MacPherson "Mac" Williams attended the Naval Academy. Her father, Vice Admiral William P. Lawrence, attended test pilot school with John Glenn, was a Mercury astronaut finalist and a former Vietnam prisoner of war. Wendy's dad also was Superintendent of the Naval Academy during her last three years as a Midshipman and the person for whom the destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG-110) is named.
