The Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry is owned and operated by the New York City Department of Transportation. It is among our nation's oldest ferry systems and carries almost 22 million passengers each and every year. The Staten Island Ferry operatesyear round, 24 hours a day on a 5.2-mile route between the northern tip of Staten Island and the southern tip of Manhattan. Although the vast majority of passengers are commuters, the Staten Island Ferry also is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city of New York.
