Application of ABC Techniques in the Travis Spur Rail Bridge Replacement in Staten Island, New York

Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques in design and construction of the rapid, single weekend replacement of Travis Spur Rail Bridge was an integral part of Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's monumental $1.5B Goethals Bridge Replacement. The new two span thru-girder structure accommodates the widened 1-278 with six travel lanes and shoulders. Extensive pre-planning and innovative ABC replacement activities resulted in minimal impacts to the traveling public.
