Media reports in early October suggested that major problems in testing had led ScotRail to refuse to accept its new fleet of Siemens Class 380 EMUs.rnThe issues are understood to have arisen during testing of coupling and uncoupling of two sets, when computer systems in the rear unit did not receive the correct data from the leading unit via the coupler. On one test run this resulted in the brakes of the rear unit being locked on. The issue had not emerged during similar trials at Siemens' Wildenrath test track in Germany.rnWhile software modifications are believed to have solved the problem, time has been lost while the revisions undergo formal safety acceptance.rnIt was hoped that driver training would be able to start in mid October, about three weeks later than scheduled.
