Councils warned to avoid Northants' hubris trap

Councils have been warned against falling victim to 'hubris' in the same manner as Northamptonshire CC. Tony McArdle and Brian Roberts, the commissioners charged with turning around Northamptonshire from its financial collapse in 2018 until its dissolution last month, have published a report with lessons for the sector. They found 'dissenting voices were ignored', and 'offers of help were rebuffed until it was too late'. The report added: 'The council at that time could be identified with one word - that word would be hubris.'
