The Leicestershire Labour group has proposed forming a county-wide unitary to prevent cuts to services. Leader of the county's opposition group, Cllr Robert Sharp, claimed it would remove duplication and reduce the amount spent on chief executive salaries. He said: 'Give the public the choice between spending money on more than 300 councillors or on services that provide care for the elderly and vulnerable children and there will be only one answer.' Leicestershire CC leader Nick Rushton told The MJ that while he accepted reorganisation would save money, now was not the time.
