'Too few staff monitor outsourced contracts'

Opposition politicians in West Sussex have questioned whether the county council has enough staff to monitor outsourced contracts after a critical audit report. West Sussex CC's annual audit report raised a number of concerns about how the local . authority monitored contracts with contractors including Balfour Beatty. Writing in a local newspaper, the secretary and co-chairman of the Midhurst and District Branch Labour Party, John Smith, said the report showed the council had a 'governance and risk and control framework that provides a limited level of assurance regarding the economic and effective use of resources in achievement of its objectives'.
