Government ministers have hailed the social enterprise action plan as a success, one year after it was launched. Cabinet office minister, Ed Miliband, said he was 'delighted' at progress made in the 12 months since the plan was launched, including getting social enterprise on the GCSE business studies syllabus. A new guide offering specialist advice and information for social enterprise businesses was launched last week, as part of Social Enterprise Day. There are now an estimated 55,000 social enterprises in the UK, and the Government wants to see more of them delivering public services. 'I want a new generation of social entrepreneurs inspired to dedicate themselves to way of doing business which combines making money with having a positive impact on our communities,' said Mr Miliband.
