Wolverhampton City Council's strategic director for community has been appointed chief executive of Dudley MBC to make the authority a 'national leader in local government'. Council leaders said Sarah Norman, 52, would be tasked with building on proposals to create a West Midlands combined authority to 'bring in more money and powers from central government'. Ms Norman, who will take up the £165,000 a year position in the New Year, will replace John Polychronakis, who is retiring after almost 40 years in local government. She joins Dudley amid plans to create the leanest management structure in the country by cutting the number of senior management positions from 22 to 11, saving £1m. Council bosses say it is the 'most radical restructuring proposal' since the authority was created in 1974.
