Durham CC chief executive George Garlick, who has headed the council since September 2008, will retire in January 2015, when he reaches the age of 60. In a message to staff and councillors, he said he was making the announcement in plenty of time to allow a recruitment process for his replacement. Previously chief executive of Stockton BC, Mr Garlick led Durham as it became a unitary authority in April 2009. The process of finding a successor will begin shortly. Worcester City Council has approved the appointment of Sheena Ramsey as the authority's new managing director replacing Duncan Sharkey, who has just joined Milton Keynes Council as director of place. Cllr Simon Geraghty, Worcester leader, said: 'We selected Sheena from a very strong field of candidates and I am confident she is the right person to lead this organisation as it focuses on its future and the building of an even more vibrant city.'
