Four decades of public service are set to come to an end with the retirement of Wealden DC chief executive, Charles Lant.Mr Lant has worked in local government for 40 years, including 16 years as chief executive and returning officer at Wealden.He said: 'It's always sad to leave, especially with some exciting and challenging times ahead, but then there are always exciting and challenging times in this job.'Wealden has a great future ahead of it, and I feel the time is right to hand over the reins to a successor.'His tenure has included overseeing a transformation programme, reducing council running costs by £4m a year, andbuilding of 160 council homes.Council leader, Cllr Bob Standley, said: 'Charlie has dedicated his working life to serving local government and the community, and in particular the district of Wealden.'
