Commission head meets LGA board in extremism fight

Britain's commissioner for countering extremism met with senior sector figures this week to discuss concerns over long-term funding and the response to the far-right threat.Sara Khan (pictured below), appointed head of the Commission for Countering Extremism in January, reiterated her commitment to working with councils at the latest meeting of the Local Government Association's (LGA) safer and stronger communities board.Board chair Cllr Simon Blackburn said: 'Councils have a vital role to play in countering extremism as they are at the heart of local communities. It was reassuring to hear that the commissioner shares our view on this and we look forward to working with her.'
