Preston City Council's chief executive of nine years, Lorraine Norris, has announced her retirement.Ms Norris has previously worked as a children's social worker for eight years. -She later retrained as a lawyer to work in childcare law before jointing Preston City Council in 2002 as director of corporate services.She said: 'After nine years as CEO at Preston City Council, I am beginning to make plans to retire later this year.'Until then, it is business as usual, as I continue to work with colleagues, partners and our elected members to deliver the council's services and priorities.Newcastle-under-Lyme BC hasappointed Staffordshire CC's director of strategy as acting chief executive on a part-time basis.John Tradewell is currently the director of strategy, governance and change at Staffordshire, where he will continue to work.Last December, the council's chief executive and acting returning officer John Sellgren was suspended following a review into issues faced by voters during the General Election in 2017.Council leader, Simon Tagg, said: 'John undertook a similar role for seven months at Staffordshire CC in 2015 while the permanent chief executive was being recruited.
