The industry saw a mega-merger close with RockTenn and Mead-Westvaco completing their merger in July, creating a new company called WestRock Co., where the combined business had about $157 billion in annual sales last year, second in the paper and packaging industry only to International Paper Co. (IP). WestRock Co. later went on to acquire SP Fiber Holdings, Inc., a producer of recycled containerboard and kraft and bag paper with mills located in Dublin, Georgia, and Newberg, Oregon. WestRock also acquired SP Fiber's 48 percent interest in Green Power Solutions of Georgia, LLC (GPS).
