St. Lucie County, FL Opens New Single-Stream MRF

When St. Lucie County made the decision to switch from dual residential recycling to single-stream recycling, the decision was made to construct its own Material Recovery Facility (MRF) for the collection and processing of its own materials. In May 2014, St. Lucie County, Florida, began collection of single-stream recycling for its residents and in September, the MRF was constructed. The County went with Machinex for their system equipment. The system purchased by the County is designed to process 15 tons per hour of residential single-stream and features a Drum Feeder for loading the system, Mach OCC Screen, Mach ONP Screen, Mach Finishing Screen, a Dual-Eject Optical Sorter for PET and HDPE, magnet for steel cans, an Eddy Current for aluminum, and a Ⅱ-Ram Baler. The installation was completed by late September.The official start-up and ribbon cutting ceremony was performed on October 24th, 2014.
