Plans for a plasma gasification plant in St. Lucie County, FL are dead, according to the county commissioner. "Obviously, I'm disappointed because of the benefits of the technology," Commissioner Chris Craft said. "It's really unfortunate that this particular technology isn't going to be viable for us today, but I do believe that in the not-too-distant future that it will work." The county originally entered a contract with developer Gasplasma in 2007 to construct, operate and finance the plasma gasification plant. The county is looking for other thermal conversion options to deal with its trash.
