These spacecrafts are owned by just a handful of nations: France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, the People's Republic of China (PRC), Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The United States has the largest fleet, comprising 41 Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) spacecraft. She is followed by Russia which possesses 38 such satellites, the United Kingdom which has eight, France which has two; the same number as Italy including the SICRAL-3 satellite it jointly owns with France. Germany possesses two dedicated MILSATCOM platforms as does India and the PRC with Japan and Spain each owning a single spacecraft for military communications. These satellites use a plethora of wavebands to provide communications. These inhabit the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) segment of the electromagnetic spectrum principally frequencies of 240 megahertz/MHz to 270MHz which also encompasses L-band (1.3 gigahertz/GHz to 1.7GHz) SATCOM. Super High Frequency (SHF) SATCOM covers a waveband of three gigahertz/GHz up to 30GHz and encompasses S-band (1.980GHz to 2.010GHz uplink/2.170GHz to 2.200GHz downlink), C-band (5.925 to 6.425GHz uplink/3.7 to 4.2GHz downlink), X-band (7.9GHz to 8.4GHz uplink/7.25 to 7.75GHz downlink), Ku-band (14GHz uplink/10.9GHz to 12.75GHz downlink) and Ka-band (26.5GHz to 40GHz uplink/18GHz to 20GHz downlink). Extremely High Frequency (30GHz to 300GHz) wavebands are also used for military SATCOM, particularly by the United States.
