LA GUERRA CIVILE IN SIRIA

After four years, the conflict in Syria does not seem to decrease. The peace Conference in Geneva contributed to underline the impasse. Expectations were not so high indeed, due to several postponements that took almost a year. Anyway the situation could not have been different for many reasons. First of all, the opposition, especially the military wing that relies on the field, boycotted the meeting. Moreover, Iran (one of the main actors on the scenario) was even not invited to the Conference. Finally Assad's resignation, which was a fundamental condition for oppositors to start the transition process, is actually not feasible. On the battlefield there is a substantial stalemate, since no one on both sides can demonstrate its ability to prevail. It seems that this situation will continue in the same way for quite long time.%Entrato ormai nel suo quarto anno, il conflitto in Siria non sembra dare segni di attenuazione. I colloqui di pace a Ginevra non hanno fatto altro che accentuare l'impasse, anche perché le aspettative non erano certo delle migliori dopo i continui rinvìi andati avanti per quasi un anno. E come potevano essere di segno contrario quando la gran parte dell'opposizione, soprattutto quella che militarmente conta sul campo, ha boicottato l'appuntamento? Un protagonista, l'Iran, non è stato invitato e una delle condizioni, l'uscita di scena di Assad per avviare la transizione, non è al momento attuabile. La parola spetta dunque m al campo di battaglia, dove nessung delle due parti si dimostra capace di superare l'altra.
