C-2. Previously known as the C-X, the C-2 is a tactical transport intended to replace Kawasaki C-1As, Lockheed C-130Hs, and NAMC YS-11s in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) fleet. The C-2 has longer range and higher payload capacity than the C-1A, but similar short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability. The new aircraft has a high-mounted wing, a fly-by-wire automatic flight control system (AFCS), glass cockpit avionics, and a rear-loading ramp and door. The C-2 is equipped with two General Electric CF6-80C2K1F turbofan engines.
