MERLOT in the Classroom: Enhancing Foreign Language Instruction through Online Learning Objects

I propose a presentation on MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching), which is a growing collection of peer-reviewed higher-education online learning materials serving various disciplines that has been developed by an international consortium of agencies and higher-ed institutions. While the effectiveness of teaching and learning may be enhanced through the integration of MERLOT materials and applications into faculty designed courses in any discipline, my presentation relates to foreign languages and the way FL resources available through MERLOT may be used to enhance or supplement foreign language instruction. I will demonstrate this with the help of French learning objects contained in the collection. I will also discuss the professional development opportunities that MERLOT provides for faculty by detailing how foreign language instructors can collaborate with MERLOT as peer reviewers and what the peer review process involves.
