摘要

Sustainability, as particularly characteristic of our time in history, is not something that should be addressed simply in environmental studies courses. I suggest that the integration of sustainability into general education courses is not only appropriate, but necessary. This is because sustainability, as a wicked problem, combined with an egoist ethic that otherizes the environment, is in large part responsible for the abuses that have led to a number of current environmental and social problems. Integrating sustainability into general education curriculum is central to the melioration of this most pressing situation. Thus, I first argue that most general education courses have something valuable to say about the issues surrounding sustainability and then present a case study focusing on the learning outcomes of integrating sustainability into diversity education.
