'Grandma, was there a war when you were born? Did you die?' asked my three-year-old grandson. Yes, Finland was in a war and I lost my father, like 80,000 other Finnish children. No, I did not die but something died in our society. We became silent - it took decades for us to start to speak about our experiences, about the biggest child evacuations ever, about war widows and traumatized fathers returning from the front to their families. Now I have found the concept, the disaster ecology which did not work during World War Ⅱ.
