The effects of wheel surface velocity (V_S) on the microstructures and mechanical properties of a Fe_(74.5)Cu_1Si_(13.5)B_9Al_2 alloy have been studied. It has been shown that decreasing V_S can obtain different microstructures, with both the hardness and elastic modulus increasing with decreasing the crystalline degree. Properly controlling V_S can obtain similar microstructures and mechanical properties to those of Finemet-type alloys produced by partially devitrifying the amorphous precursors, but with a shorter production cycle and relatively lower cost.
