摘要

Wood has been, from ancient times, a material of great importance to mankind, mainly due to its important properties and wide range of applications: from musical instruments to a building material. It possesses excellent properties such as: low weight, high mechanical strength (in tension and compression), low thermal conductivity, good acoustic properties, high endurance to outdoor conditions (when is properly treated), etc. However weather conditions (temperature and water) can damage untreated wood changing its texture and appearance: cracking, dimensional changes, etc.
