Why are so few engineers running shipping companies, at least in comparison to the corporate number crunchers, who tend to occupy the seats of power in a business where technology ought to be rather important? Are they insufficiently strategic, or lacking in commercial acuity, or perhaps they are just insufficiently interested in clambering up the greasy pole over the bloodstained shoulders of those who have gone before? Perhaps engineers are just too nice?
