1. Several authors in international management have stressed the importance of global integration for firms competing internationally. Surprisingly, little empirical research has been conducted on the relationship between global integration and performance. 2. This paper suggests that the performance consequences of global integration require balancing the configuration benefits and the coordination requirements of a global strategy. This leads to a non-linear relation between global integration and firm performance.
