In Memory of Mikhail Abramovich Zharkov

Prof. Mikhail Abramovich Zharkov, DSc (Geol.-Miner.), an eminent scientist, chief researcher of the Geological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences (GIN RAS), Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, passed away on May 11, 2009.rnM.A. Zharkov was born on July 6, 1928, to the family of a military man in Vitebsk. The beginning of his life was noted for his father's infinite business trips and changes of residences (Vitebsk, Leningrad, and Moscow). Chelyabinsk, Tashkent, and Samarkand alternatively became cities where he lived and studied during the Great Patriotic War.
