OSRAM SNAPS UP LED ENGIN

LED Engin, a California company offering high-power LED systems for specialty lighting applications, is set to become part of Osram, after the two parties agreed an acquisition deal. Based in San Jose, LED Engin sources most of its LED chips from Osram's Opto Semiconductors subsidiary. The acquisition price was not disclosed but Osram said that LED Engin's current annual sales were around $US10 million. The high-power lighting systems that LED Engin provides are typically used in entertainment, horticulture, and powerful UV LEDs for industrial applications including printing, curing and dentistry.
