A world-class fleet, packed with technology

Working to a USD456.2m contract signed in 2005, Kinki Sharyo has delivered 385 metro trainsets, arranged in 62 five-car sets for the Red line and 25 three-car sets for the Green line. Power is delivered via a 750V dc third-rail system. Under the terms of the contract, 20 cars were shipped per month from Kinki Sharyo's facility in Osaka, Japan, to Dubai during 2008-09, with the first cars arriving in March 2008. Pre-delivery testing of the first trainset - at speeds of up to 60km/h, optimium operating speed is 90km/h -was carried out at the Mihara test track near Hiroshima, while the second trainset was sent to the Nippon Sharyo plant in Nagoya to test the air-conditioning. Voith Scharfenberg auto-couplers with shock absorbers are fitted to all trains to protect the driverless vehicles in the event of a low-speed collision.
