Lessons learned from designing flipped lessons for fourth grade students: implications for school librarians

Overall, a majority of the students found the lessons helpful and enjoyed completing them. Nonetheless, problems with computers and internet connections at home resulted in unpleasant experiences for some of the students. This project reveals that factors such as access to technology, skill levels of students and parental assistance should be considered when creating flipped lessons. Based on the results of this project, the following recommendations are provided to assist school librarians who are interested in developing flipped lessons. 1. Offer students the ability to complete the lessons at home or at school. 2. Create tutorial videos for students and have an instructional session before implementing lessons. 3. Follow-up frequently with collaborative partners and students. 4. Share information with parents about the lessons. 5. Use technology platforms that are accessible with tablets and computers. 6. Use a short project to test the platform before developing a long unit of study.
