Slaughter go down of 25%

The overall slaughter in Argentina dropped by 25% compared with 2009 and live-stock numbers fell over 15% compared with 2008 respecti-vely, according to AAQTIC, the Argentine Leather Industry Chemists and Technicians. Beef consumption per capita dropped from 68kg/year to 55kg across the same period. Argentina's beef exports declined by around 50% in kilogramme. Stock and slaughter are expec-ted to be recovered in four years' time. Nevertheless, slaughter may expérience a downward trend in 2011. Thèse circumstances are expected to hâve a négative impact on the tanning sector, with raw materials becoming more expensive and scarce over the last year.
