Internet Market Liberaliation Decision Postponed

Paraguay s government has postponed making a decision on the liberaliation of the country s Internet market. A report from local newspaper La Nacion says that the government will now return to the discussion next March. Paraguay s president Fernando Lugo met with representatives of state-owned telco Copaco and telecoms regulator Conatel to investigate the possibility of allowing competition into the wholesale Internet market, which is currently monopolized by Copaco. The reasons behind the decision to postpone liberalization were not given.
