Osiptel looks to drop fees for calls to cities

Peruvian telecoms regulator Osiptel has drafted a resolution (031-2012-CD/Osiptel) that will see certain interconnection fees fall by 68%: rural operators connecting to the networks of urban providers will be charged the lower rate. The watchdog claims that the move would reduce the annual outgoings of the affected companies by USD$2.7 million, and allow increased competition. Osiptel listed four rural companies that would be affected by the decision: Rural Telecom, Gilat to Home, Valtron and Telefonica del Peru.
