Acknowledged or not, multilingualism is now a global phenomenon and has, consequently, been receiving increasing research attention. Hence, this edited book, Becoming Multilingual: Language Learning and Language Policy between Attitudes and Identities is indeed very timely. Comprising an introduction and eight chapters, it highlights the diversity and the complexity of multilingualism and suggests innovative approaches to understanding the phenomenon. More importantly, it brings unique insights into the research field by proposing an emerging theme of examining multilingualism as a dynamic process. This theme penetrates the whole volume. However, given the extraordinary complexity of the issue and the numerous implications of the broad array of topics addressed, the book seems ambitious in scope.
