Durita Dahl Andreassen, who was born and raised on the Faroe Islands, started project SheepView360 to encourage Google Street View to map the islands. With the help of a local farmer and an inventor specialising in animal monitoring, they devised a 360-degree camera and harness which, combined with a mobile telephone and some solar panels, is mounted on the sheep's back. Whilst the sheep grazes, the camera records the landscape and sends the pictures back with GPS coordinates, enabling Durita to upload them to Google Street View. The team has recorded panoramic images of five locations so far, and also recorded a 360-degree video enabling the viewer to see the island from a sheep's perspective.
