The French national railway company SNCF is hiring sheep from GreenSheep to keep their railway embankments in the 17th arrondissement of Paris tidy. The sheep are regularly monitored by a shepherd and are also examined by a vet. When looking after a field in a rural part of France, Paul Letheux, founder of GreenSheep, experimented by using sheep to keep the grass down. Companies in the surrounding area saw how successful this proved and approached Paul about renting his sheep to look after their land. GreenSheep now has a flock of over 1,000 sheep which eco-graze all over France. The company only uses one breed, Ouessant, which are small and strong, and able to live outside year-round.
