The current Drapers' Hall in Coventry, built in 1832, is set to be restored by 2021 to house a centre for music and a concert venue. After the Black Death, between 1348 and 1349, unlike most other towns, Coventry's textile trade was booming. The town became a very important trading place for wool and woollen cloth, and the drapers formed their trade guild - The Worshipful Guild of Drapers. The Regency building replaced two others on the same site and has been empty for nearly thirty years. It is adjacent to the site of the Great Drapery, which was the second largest mediaeval cloth market in England. The drapers greatly influenced the creative scene of Coventry and the Hall became a centre for entertainment including live music and theatre.
