We studied the method of water disinfection using the combined effect of O_3 and ultraviolet radiation employing a medium-pressure mercury lamp Tungsram-100 and an IFP-800 xenon pulse lamp. It was found out that the combination of high dosages of disinfectants when doing O_3/UV treatment leads to the emergence of antagonistic effects, which were caused by the competitive absorption of light quanta by bacteria and ozone dissolved in water. In this case the efficiency of O_3/UV treatment was greater than that of applying O_3 alone, but less than using UV-radiation alone. The combination of low dosages of ozone feed and intensities of UV-radiation when effecting O_3/UV treatment, the pulse feeding of ultraviolet during ozonization and radiation of ozonized water at the initial period equal to a latent phase in the case of ozonization alone leads to additive effects.
