Une approche laieque de la mobilite (A secular approach to mobility)

One cannot help being surprised by the title of this work by Jean-Pierre Orfeuil. What has religion to do with the analysis of mobility? The first pages of the book provide the answer. In keeping with his reputation, the author expresses scepticism about received ideas, universally accepted solutions, good intentions and dogma. He refuses to unquestioningly accept a credo of politically correct solutions. It is a book that deals uncompromisingly with transport policy and, more broadly, with urban policy in France (and also in a good number of other European countries) in recent decades. In a sort of ironic nod to the title, the book ends with a statement of the author's beliefs regarding the approach that transport researchers or technicians should take, in the form of "ten commandments for a secular approach to mobility from a climate change perspective".
