As is customary for technical journals, The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers does not pay for accepted manuscripts. Contributions meeting the Criteria for Acceptability should be forwarded in accordance with the following instructions to: The Journal of Ship Research, The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, 601 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306, or sent electronically to sevans @ sname.org.rnA Journal of Ship Research paper should be concise, clear, complete, and original. It must have scientific merit and logic. All assumptions should be fully identified, and data and computations presented with their uncertainty. The actual accomplishments of the work must be plainly stated and fairly appraised. Contributions should present the results of research or studies that advance the art of ship design or ocean engineering. These results may provide information immediately useful to the naval architect, ocean, or marine engineer, or may contribute to the understanding of phenomena about which the profession is seriously concerned. Short technical notes that meet these criteria, and which may report the results of investigations of limited scope or a phase of a more extensive research study, are also acceptable. Short technical notes that amplify or clarify papers previously published in the Journal of Ship Research are acceptable if they are received no later than six months after the publication of the article to which they refer.
