摘要

'At some level there is very little difference between the practice of Geography and any other social or physical science, thus realistically any decently written book of statistics should suffice for students of Geography.'rnThis statement is perhaps partially true; however, what most other disciplines, and indeed most other statistics books, fail to account for is the sheer importance of space, i.e. geographical space. What Burt and his colleagues have again shown in the third edition of their highly regarded textbook is not only the skills that are required to use statistics, but also crucially spatial statistics. It is an appreciation of changing patterns over space, and the ability to measure this, that defines a geographical use of statistics. A spatial approach is something that is not present in most 'decent' statistics books.
