Special issue introduction — the road map for distributed sensor networks in the context of computing and communication

Research in distributed sensor networks has reached the stage at which too many concepts, hypotheses, theories, designs, and applications are presented and no recognized general framework is able to accommodate all of them. It is an opportunity rather than a challenge. In many disciplines similar situation resulted in great breakthroughs. Probably something pivotal is just below the horizon; maybe just a shoulder is enough for us to see it. At this point open mind, exchange of ideas and information, and mutual respect and understanding are highly appreciated. That is the motivation of this special issue. We do wish the collision of mind could generate really splendid sparks.
