Information Literacy Instruction has a long history of beingtaught by librarians to online learners. Emerging technologieshelp librarians increase their ability to meet the needs, learningstyles and best practices of providing online ILI to theirstudents. Digital badging is an evolving technology whichcould help librarians develop their online learning practices inareas including sustainability, personalized learning, and collaborationwith academic colleagues. This paper examinesestablished best practices identified in the literature regardingonline ILI and gives readers a context of how the best practicesalign with the use of digital badges in ILI.
