Karen Scott is a woman with a mission. Concerned at the lack of upcoming coders in the UK, she took matters into her own hands and launched futureCoders. Here she takes time out with Telecoms Professional to explain what is driving her. Karen aims to increase the number of UK educated and skilled, young developers in the talent pool to help digital businesses in the UK thrive for generations to come. So just how will that work? 1.We aim to create great coders and to link them with employers. We work with young people, aged between 16 and 24. 2.We help them learn to code through our education programme of learn to code' workshops, project workshops and support for hackathons and careers events. 3.We help them to become more skilled and more employable through our project-based work experience programme. 4.We assess their skills, attitudes and behaviours in line with the SFIA skills framework and introduce them to employers. 5.We support traineeships and apprenticeships to help young people into the workplace.
